What is ART?

Using guided eye movements and visualization techniques, ART helped your brain reprocess troubling images, sensations and emotions so they no longer cause the same intensity of distress.

What are typical ART sessions like?
The first session is typically 90 minutes to allow for extra time to get used to the protocol. Subsequent sessions are 50-60 minutes. The therapist guides you through eye movements and visualization exercises. You will focus on certain images, sensations and emotions while the clinician helps change how those memories are stored and experienced.
How many sessions will I need?
Although each persons needs are different, clients report noticeable improvement between 1-5 sessions of ART. You will determine with your clinician what you want to work on and create a customized plan.
Do I need to talk about my trauma in detail?
No. One of the strengths of ART is that you don’t need to describe the full details of what happened. The technique works through internal processing, making it a respectful and non-invasive approach to healing.
How does ART different from EMDR?
While Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing both use eye movements, they differ in structure and experience. ART is more directive and includes a specific voluntary image replacement process.
You don’t have to retell your trauma in detail during ART.
Is ART safe?
Yes. ART is considered a safe and effective therapy that allows your brain to do what it naturally wants to do—resolve and heal. It’s backed by research and used by trained professionals across the country.
I like my current therapist, can I just do ART with you?
Yes. If you are currently in treatment and would like to supplement with ART sessions, we can certainly do that. I can also collaborate with you provider if you so desire.
Can we do other types of therapies with ART?
Yes of course. ART can be a standalone treatment but I often blend ART with talk therapy, CBT, skill building, self-esteem work etc. We can tailor therapy to your unique wants and needs.
